Pictures and details of the upcoming three-door BMW 1-series has just been released by BMW. Although having only three doors, the new 1-series shares the same length, width and height as the five-door 1 series. The new three-door is also longer than the model preceding it by 85mm. Its 30mm longer wheelbase with wider front and rear tracks gives a much bigger cabin space.
The new 1-series is available as a four or a five seater. With the longer wheelbase, the boot space is increased to 360 liters (up by 30 liters) and 1,200 liters with the rear seats stowed.
The entry level 1-series, the 114i, is equipped with a 101bhp 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with a fuel consumption of 49.6mpg and emits 132g/km of CO2. One notch up the ladder is the 116i powered by a 2.0-liter 134bhp turbocharged petrol engine consuming 51mpg and emitting 129g/km for CO2. The 125i is powered by the same engine but it is tuned to a more powerful 215bhp.
The flagship model, the M135i is powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged 315bhp six cylinder engine. It ain’t no sloth with only 5.1 seconds to hit 0-62mph. Its fuel consumption sits at 35.3mpg and emits 188g/km of CO2.
Sitting in the diesel lineup is the 116d, 118d and the 125d. The 116d is made up of two versions. While both are powered by the same 2.0-liter 114bhp four cylinder turbocharged engine, the EfficientDynamics version offers a more economical option with 74.3mpg of fuel consumption and emitting only 99g/km of CO2.
The top of the line diesel is only offered in M Sport Trim. It gets 215bhp engine, enough to launch it from 0-62mph in 6.3 seconds. Its fuel consumption sits at 57.6mpg and emits 129g/km of CO2. It is available with a six speed manual gearbox standard though there is also an option for an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The car is also available in five different trim levels: ES, SE, Sport, Urban and the range topper M Sport. Entry level models are offered with keyless start, 16” wheels, ABS and ESP. The SE adds to the car a 6.5” display, multi-function steering wheel and also USB and Bluetooth capabilities.
The Sport trim comes with 17” wheels, sportier looking bumpers, sport seats as well as sport steering wheel with red stitches adorning it. The Urban also rolls on 17” alloys but the interior is classier with half-leather ulphostery.
The range topper M Sport is equipped with sporty looking bumpers, bodykit, 18” wheels, sport seats and also a tailor made suspension system. The M135i gets M Sport brakes, steering and suspension system.
The three-door BMW 1 Series will cost from £17,300 for the 114i ES all the way up to £29,995 for the M135i.
